Where Can Halal Meat Be Found in Salem?

Select Safeway stores carry fresh packaged Halal lamb and beef from Australia, as well as Saffron Road certified halal entrees, snacks, simmer sauces and other halal products. Safeway’s new Open Nature line of 100% natural grass fed Angus beef is certified Halal and sustainably raised in Australia.  “Open Nature” is carried by many Safeway stores. It is stocked on the counter in the meat department. It is a fresh meat product and is not frozen.

Costco on Hawthorne sells packaged halal meats, including Australian halal lamb and halal goat. The lamb is supplied by Australian Lamb Company Inc., a halal certified supplier. The lamb arrives prepackaged in the Kirkland Signature vacuum sealed packs which have the Australian Halal Stamp. As long as it is sold in this packaging the product is guaranteed top quality and certified halal by the AQIS. However, with some cuts of meat this seal is broken and the meat is cut and repackaged in the Costco Warehouse. When this happens the product looses its certification because other non halal meats, including pork, are processed using the same knives and machines in the Costco facility.
